About Us

Kidd Motor Group has been proudly locally owned by the Kidd family since 1984. Founded by Robin and Jenny Kidd, the business was originally known as Palmerston North Eurocar’s and began as the local agents for several European brands.

Robin, originally from Scotland, worked as an engineer at Scott Base in Antarctica during the 1960s. While travelling through New Zealand on his way south, he met his future wife Jenny—and the rest is history. After working as a mechanic throughout the Manawatu, Robin purchased the K.S. Grant Motors workshop in Palmerston North in 1982. Nine years later, he bought a building on the corner of Carroll and Featherston Streets and relocated the business. This move created the first opportunity to retail vehicles, representing brands such as Alfa Romeo, Audi, Volvo, Citroën and Fiat.

In 1997, the opportunity arose to take on the Suzuki franchise. Since then, Suzuki has become one of the strongest and most successful vehicle brands in the Manawatu. Kidd Motor Group was proudly recognised as the Top Suzuki Provincial Dealership in New Zealand in both 2021 and 2024.

The Peugeot franchise was added in 2021, becoming an important part of our sales and service operations. In 2024, Kidd Motor Group acquired the Omoda and Jaecoo franchises, followed by the Chery franchise in 2025. These additions prompted the construction of two new showrooms and a major expansion of our dealership footprint, allowing us to accommodate over 120 vehicles on-site.

Today, Kidd Motor Group employs more than 17 people. Robin’s son, Stephen Kidd, returned from Amsterdam in 2007 to lead the Sales Department and now serves as Dealer Principal. Robin’s daughter, Donna Affleck, also returned home from London in 2007 to take on the role of Office Manager.

We value our team highly, and this is reflected in our low staff turnover. We’re proud to have many long-serving employees, including Carl Giddens (since 1998), Lewis Morgan (since 2008), Vicky Howell (since 2012), Callum Roberts (since 2015)and Daniel Mantell (since 2015) with many other employees who have been with us for over 5 years(2025).

Kidd Motor Group operates a highly experienced service and parts department and is the authorised franchise agent for Suzuki, Peugeot, Citroën, Omoda, Jaecoo, and Chery.
